But what about the neighborhood or community around the home you have your eye on? How can you research a community from the comfort of your couch?

Here are 7 Ways To Virtually Explore & Experience A Community:


1 – Check out local social media groups specific to the area

The best way to get insider knowledge for any community is to learn from those already living there. Browse social media platforms for groups or accounts that document and discuss what’s going on in the neighborhood you’re interested in moving to.  While many eateries and businesses are currently in takeout-only mode, you can leverage groups to ask locals about local coffee shops, restaurants, brewpubs, and shopping, etc., you should experience post-pandemic. And for now, please support our local businesses as you’re able to! Takeout, delivery, and online shopping options are plentiful and delicious and offer a great way to try out a new-to-you eatery or store while supporting our local businesses during these extraordinary times.

Websites such as CrimeReports can provide crime data from law enforcement agencies. To see if there are registered sex offenders living nearby, type the address of your potential new home in the National Sex Offender Registry’s public website.

6 – Estimate and understand your daily commute
